Although hobbling is not commonly used by today’s owners, it’s quite practical and is still a useful piece of equipment to have in your training tool box. Horses are taught to hobble for many reasons and this clinic will introduce you and your horse to hobbling primarily for safety reasons. A horse that is well hobble trained will stand still if they get a foot caught in a rope, fence, brush, wire or anything else. I have seen both ends of the spectrum….horses caught in brush or wire and fought so hard they were permanently injured, or worse, and horses who have been hobble trained and stood for who knows how long while waiting for help. Also, I feel it’s great basic training because it helps teach a horse to think rather than react in a blind panic. What's more, it can be very handy for trail riders and packers to be able to hobble a horse to graze.
This clinic breaks hobble training down into small steps and is much safer than just putting hobbles on your horse and letting them fight it out.
Plan on learning about various types of hobbles as well as a little history behind each one. In addition, all participants will receive a set of hobbles. Contact Ed for more information about this exciting clinic.
